Kimiko - a sad reading by fredrin Kimiko - a sad reading by fredrin
Started as a re-draw of an old frame in which Kimiko was reading her part of Kotone for the game 'Sight', actually came out quite well - couldn't help the overdetailing (AKG k702s and a Neumann U87 mic). This is for the Megatokyo 2012 calendar/mini art-book that is currently in production and will be available in the MegaGear store for pretty soon.

You work magic sometimes... So simple in a way, yet so expressive.

If that's an embarrassing amount of flattery, you can put it down to me being 2-AM-sleepy.

彼女が悲しいときに彼女はとてもかわいいです

The Hair is awesome in this. I think I might make my hair similar (in drawing style im not going to copy your drawing) when I draw.

I think your "overdetalining" was necessary to pull of the shot. Looks very nice.
Not sure if it was intentional or not, but the mic is a little too high, don't you think?

they actually tend to always seem to be too high in the shots of studios where recording for anime is done in japan - this may just be my brain not registering things ^^;; It is, in fact, too high for another reason - compositionally, she is holding the script too high - which gets in the way. The pop filter is also annoying - it's a pain to work with like, real stuff, yknow? (and there is the fact that the pop filter i'm modeling this on is actually different - it doesn't have that 90 degree adjustment at the base of the loop, so... artistic license :)

Ah, I am not familiar with studio settings myself, so perhaps it is standard to set them up that way. Half the fun of being an artist is being able to screw with things until you get it how you like, so adjust on! :iconyeahplz:

Clay, it seems that mics of that nature tend to be a bit "high". Often times at nose level. I'm not sure why, but Fred nailed it here (me thinks). And ditto what you said about the detailing. It blends in well and isn't out of place, not a bit!

Sorry, that's kinda the first thing I noticed. That spiky shock-mount is kind of a dead giveaway. ^^;

But over-detailing products is the funnest part of drawing. I do like her expression and I look forward to the other pieces for the calendar.
